Biochem/physiol Actions

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are the members of the TGF-β superfamily and are identified as the critical factors for formation of bone and cartilage. Apart from this BMPs have immune regulatory functions. The cellular effects of BMPs are mediated by a heteromeric complex composed of type I and type II receptors. BMP5 is required for the development and fine tuning of the skeletal morphology.

Immunogen

recombinant human BMP-5, expressed in NSO cells.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline with 5% trehalose.

Much evidence suggests that "developmental regulator" genes, like those encoding transcription factors and signaling molecules, are typically controlled by many modular, tissue-specific cis-regulatory elements that function during embryogenesis. These elements are often far from gene coding regions and promoters. Bone

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) play a crucial role in mammalian reproduction, but little is known about their expression and function in the oviduct, where preimplantation events take place. In the present study, messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of BMPs was examined

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), members of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily, bind to two different serine/threonine kinase receptors, and mediate their signals through Smad-dependent and Smad-independent pathways. Receptor regulated-Smad (R-Smad) proteins specific for the BMP pathways interact with various
