C6 Cell Line from rat

C6 cell line has been used to study the ability of 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)thieno-1,3-thiazin-4-one (BChTT) to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and identify mechanisms involved in its actions. It has also been used to study the cytotoxic and antioxidant properties of supercritical CO₂ extract (SCE) of old man′s beard (Usnea barbata).

C6 cells are reported to produce elevated levels of glyceryl phosphate dehydrogenase activity in response to glucocorticoids

Derived from a rat glial tumour induced by N-nitrosomethylurea. The cells produce S-100 protein which is found in the neural tissue of vertebrates and has been found in brain tumours. Synthesis of S-100 increases 10 fold as cells reach confluency.

Ham′s F12 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 1-3x100,000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO₂; 37°C.
