Canine osteoblasts provide an excellent model system for studies relevant to the skeletal system, including mechanisms of cancerogenesis.
Canine osteoblasts have been used to define a biomarker profile of canine osteosarcoma (Milovancev, 2013), elucidate the roles of oncogenic STAT3 (Fossey, 2009, 2011) and canonical Wnt signaling (Piskun, 2013) pathways, and to develop personalized osteosarcoma treatments by testing Src inhibitor dasatinib (Davis, 2013), procaspase-3 activating compound PAC-1 (Book, 2012), HSP90 inhibitor STA-1474 (McCleese, 2009) and STAT3 inhibitor LLL12 (Couto, 2012, 2013).
Characterization: Positive for bone mineralization.
