General description
β‑Endothelial Cell Growth Factor (β‑ECGF) is a recombinant human protein expressed in Escherichia coli and supplied as a lyophilized powder suitable for mammalian cell culture. The β‑ECGF gene encodes an endothelial growth factor and is mapped to human chromosome 11q13.1. Recombinant β‑ECGF consists of a 14‑amino‑acid N‑terminal extension of acidic fibroblast growth factor. After removal of the initiation methionine, the protein comprises 154 amino acids with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 17 kDa.
Application
Recombinant human β‑Endothelial Cell Growth Factor (β‑ECGF) has been used in a range of endothelial research applications, including:
- Endothelial cell culture studies
- Human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) culture
- Cell death and viability assays in in vitro model systems
Biochem/physiol Actions
β‑Endothelial Cell Growth Factor (β‑ECGF) is a potent mitogen for endothelial cells, with mitogenic activity reported to be enhanced in the presence of heparin. In vitro, β‑ECGF stimulates the growth of quiescent human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). β‑ECGF has been associated with endothelial‑mediated lipid and glucose metabolism pathways and has been studied extensively in cellular and molecular research models.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 10 mM MOPS, 50 mM ammonium sulfate, 0.2 mM DTT, and 0.2 mM EDTA, pH 7.2, containing 50 μg bovine serum albumin per 1 μg cytokine.
Analysis Note
The proliferative activity is tested in culture by using quiescent NR6R-3T3 fibroblasts.
Other Notes
14 amino acid, N-terminal extended form of human FGF-acidic.
