General description

Heparin‑Binding Epidermal Growth Factor‑Like Growth Factor (HB‑EGF) is a recombinant human member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, expressed in baculovirus‑infected Sf21 insect cells and supplied as a lyophilized powder. HB‑EGF is produced with high purity (≥97%) and is suitable for use in mammalian cell culture and in vitro research applications.

Application

Recombinant human HB‑EGF is commonly used in cell‑based research applications, including: •Mammalian cell culture studies
•Growth and signaling studies in EGF‑responsive cell lines
•Cellular proliferation and migration assays in in vitro model systems

Biochem/physiol Actions

Heparin‑Binding Epidermal Growth Factor‑Like Growth Factor (HB‑EGF) is a heparin‑binding member of the EGF growth factor family. Soluble HB‑EGF is a glycoprotein that exhibits mitogenic and chemotactic activity toward multiple cell types, including fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and smooth muscle cells, in vitro. HB‑EGF is produced by several cell types, including monocytes, macrophages, and vascular smooth muscle cells, and signals primarily through the EGF receptor (EGFR) with high affinity and ErbB family receptors with moderate affinity.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 2.5 mg bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to stimulate 3H-thymidine incorporation in the EGF-responsive BALB/3T3 cells.
