General description
Chicken IgY is made of two heavy (H) and two light (L) chains. Its molecular weight is about ~180 kDa.
Chicken IgY is the major antibody found in chicken serum. Chickens generate a comparatively enhanced antibody response to mammalian antigenic proteins. These immunoglobulins do not bind to Fc receptors present in mammals and bacteria, and also do not interact with rheumatoid factors. Thus chicken antibodies are useful analytical tools for various research applications .
Immunogen
Chicken IgY (IgG)
Purified chicken IgY (IgG)
Application
Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule) FITC antibody has been used:
- in indirect immunofluorescence
- in western blotting
- in immunocytochemistry
Biochem/physiol Actions
Birds, reptiles and amphibians express IgY antibodies that are functionally equivalent to IgG. Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-FITC antibody is specific for IgY of chicken. Rabbit Anti- Chicken IgY (IgG) is conjugated to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Free FITC is removed by gel filtration.
IgY plays a major role in defense mechanism against systemic infections. It also possesses the ability to initiate anaphylactic reactions.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Brief expression of pluripotency-associated factors such as Oct4, Klf4, Sox2 and c-Myc (OKSM), in combination with differentiation-inducing signals, has been reported to trigger transdifferentiation of fibroblasts into other cell types. Here we show that OKSM expression in mouse fibroblasts gives
