General description

The metabotropic glutamate receptors consist of eight subtypes (mGluR1-8) divided into three groups (I-III). Glutamate is the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain. It acts on ligand-gated receptor channels, termed NMDA, AMPA and kainate receptors, involved in the fast excitatory synaptic transmission. Glutamate also regulates ion channels and enzymes producing second messengers via specific receptors coupled to G-proteins, called metabotropic glutamate receptors.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the N-terminal extracellular domain of human metabotropic glutamate receptor 7, conjugate to KLH. The immunizing peptide has 100% homology with the rat gene and 95% homology with the mouse gene.

Application

Anti-Glutamate Receptor 7, Metabotropic antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for immunohistochemistry using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of human brain, neurons.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glutamate Receptor 7 belongs to group III and inhibits adenyl cyclase. The role of the metabotropic receptors in pain and pathology is being studied for therapeutic potential. Activation of Group III receptors has been shown to be neuroprotective. Glutamate receptors are important mediators of excitatory amino acid neurotransmission.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline, containing 0.1% sodium azide.
