Application
Anti-Histone H1,1 antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Histone H1.1 is a protein encoded by the HIST1H1A gene in humans and the gene is expressed in testis and thymus, but not in other human tissues. It is located on chromosome 6(6p21-p22) containing 55 histone genes. ist1 on mouse chromosome 13 contains 51 histone genes. There are 2 different human H1 histones coding genes that are differentiated mainly due to the N- and C-terminal H1 domains, whereas the central part of the protein is highly conserved. Histone H1 is a fundamental chromosomal protein and is associated with the maintenance of higher-ordered chromatin organization. It functions in the compaction of chromatin into higher order structures and its modulation is an important step in the potentiation/depotentiation of chromatin structure for transcription. H1 binds less tightly than other histones to DNA in chromatin and can readily exchange in living cells.
