General description
Recombinant human Interleukin‑2 (IL‑2) is an α‑helical cytokine expressed in HEK 293 cells and supplied as a glycosylated lyophilized protein. IL‑2 is commonly used in mammalian cell culture research involving immune‑related cell models.
Application
Recombinant IL‑2 has been used to culture peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), activate immune effector cells, and support antibody‑dependent cellular assays in vitro.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Interleukin‑2 (IL‑2) is an immunomodulatory cytokine that supports growth and maintenance of activated T cells, natural killer cells, and related immune cell populations in in vitro cell culture systems. IL-2 mediates the activation and proliferation of NK cells, induces γ-interferon and B cell growth factor secretion, and modulates the expression of the IL-2 receptor. It is involved in the formation and essential functions of regulatory T cells. IL-2 is associated with apoptosis and thus, possesses antitumor response.
Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an immunomodulatory factor produced by certain subsets of T lymphocytes. This lymphokine promotes long term growth of activated T cells and related cell types. IL-2 plays a role in the activation and proliferation of NK cells, induces γ-interferon and B cell growth factor secretion, and modulates the expression of the IL-2 receptor.
Preparation Note
Human Interleukin-2 (IL-2) expressed in human HEK 293 cells is a glycosylated monomer with a molecular mass of 15 kDa. Production in human HEK 293 cells offers authentic glycosylation. Glycosylation contributes to stability in cell growth media and other applications.
Analysis Note
The specific activity was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of mouse CTLL-2 cells (mouse cytotoxic T cell line).
