Biochem/physiol Actions

In mice, absence of IL-4 (interleukin-4) causes anxiety-like behavior. It is secreted by Th2 (T helper) cells and works as a pro-inflammatory cytokine. It plays an important role in immune response and allergic diseases. It is also associated with schistosoma mansoni pulmonary hypertension.
Possesses the biological functions of the IL-4 moiety and a prolonged circulating half-life determined by the Fc domain.

Physical form

Solution in 0.2 μm filtered phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4.

Other Notes

Dimeric fusion protein consisting of mouse IL-4 fused to mutant mouse Fcγ2a Fc.

Inflammation is a recognized antecedent and coincident factor when examining the biology of anxiety. Little is known, however, about how reductions in endogenous anti-inflammatory mediators impact anxiety.
