Gene Information

human ... IGFBP2(3485)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Exhibits a 2-10 fold higher affinity for IGF II than for IGF I.
IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) regulates the function of IGF ligands. IGFBP2 is associated with skeletal muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. It also plays an important role in the differentiation of corneal fibroblast.
During development, insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2 is expressed in a number of tissues with the highest expression level found in the central nervous system. IGFBP-2 exhibits a 2-10 fold higher affinity for IGF II than for IGF I. Mouse and human IGFBP-2 share approximately 82% homology.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution of 30% (v/v) acetonitrile with 0.1% (v/v) TFA

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to inhibit recombinant human lGF-II on MCF-7 cells.

General description

The gene IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) is mapped to human chromosome 2q35.

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) play an important role in cell growth and differentiation. Clinical and epidemiological studies have indicated that measuring IGFs and IGFBPs in blood has potential implications in assessing growth-related abnormalities and risks
