Gene Information
human ... MMP12(4321)
General description
Matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12) is also called as macrophage metalloelastase and is secreted by inflammatory macrophages. It is synthesized as a zymogen and then activated by cleaving the propeptide domain. The MMP-12 gene is localized on human chromosome 11.
Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to the propeptide region of human matrix metalloproteinase-12 (macrophage elastase).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12) is involved in breaking down proteoglycans, collagen type IV and laminin. Its main substrate is elastin.
The antibody recognizes only the latent form of MMP-12 and not the active forms. May be used to distinguish the zymogen and the activated enzyme.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 50% glycerol and 15 mM sodium azide.

Aortic dissection(AD) is an acute process of large blood vessels characterized by dangerous pathogenic conditions and high disability and high mortality. The pathogenesis of AD remains debated. Matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12) participates in many pathological processes such as abdominal aortic aneurysm
