General description

Glycogen is a branched polysaccharide composed of glucose units, primarily stored in the liver and muscle as a vital short-term energy reserve. Its ability to quickly release glucose to meet sudden energy demands makes it essential for metabolic regulation. Detecting glycogen levels can provide insights into metabolic disorders, such as diabetes and genetic glycogen storage diseases. In diabetes, glycogen metabolism can become disrupted, leading to abnormal accumulation or depletion in the liver due to insulin imbalances. Genetic glycogen storage diseases arise from enzyme deficiencies affecting glycogen synthesis or breakdown.

Application

Suitable for determining glycogen concentration in varioustissues, including liver, and in cell culture (both adherent and suspension cells).
The Glycogen Assay Kit has been used to determine glycogen content in liver tissue, as well as in vastus lateralis and muscle homogenates.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glycogen concentration is determined by a coupled enzyme assay, which produces a colorimetric (570 nm)/ fluorometric (λex = 535/λem = 587 nm) product, proportional to the glycogen present.

Features and Benefits

Compatibility with High-Throughput Systems: Seamlessly integrate our kit into high-throughput handling systems, ensuring smooth operations and accurate results, enhancing efficiency in your laboratory workflow.
