Application

Poly-L-arginine hydrochloride has been used:
  • as polyelectrolyte solution in the synthesis of biodegradable capsules
  • as layer constituent, in the preparation of layer by layer (LbL) assembly of multilayer biodegradable shells
  • in assay for the determination of binding activity of C-reactive protein for polycationic ligands

Biochem/physiol Actions

Poly-L-arginine (PLA) possesses anti-bacterial activity. It has a greater capacity to enhance membrane permeability. PLA at lower concentration enhances cell proliferation and at higher concentration acts as antiproliferative agent.

Analysis Note

Contains 3% or less ornithine residue by TLC.
Molecular weight based on viscosity of precursor poly-L-ornithine.
