Biochem/physiol Actions

hnRNP-E1/E2 (heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins) participates in the development and progression of tumor. It is involved in several transcriptional and posttranscriptional events like mRNA transcription regulation, transportation, splicing, translation, and stabilization. It plays critical roles in cancer apoptosis, metastasis, invasion and malignant transformation. It may also participates in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

General description

hnRNP-E1/E2 (heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins) belongs to hnRNP (heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein) family. It is also known as poly-C binding proteins (PCBP) 1 and 2. It is located on chromosome 2p13. PCBP1 gene has no intron and codes for a 356 amino acid poly (rC) binding protein 1, that is of 35kDa. It has three K-Homology (KH) domains and two nuclear localization signals.
