D-(+)-Raffinose pentahydrate has been used as a cryoprotectant for Caudal epididymis and zebrafish sperm.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Raffinose is a galactosyl-glucosyl-fructosyl trisaccharide, which belongs to the family of oligosaccharides. It is hydrolyzed to D-galactose and sucrose by D-galactosidase. Raffinose is extracted from beet sugar molasses, cottonseed meal and seeds of food legumes. It has cell proliferative and anti-oxidative properties. Raffinose improves immune response and also has healing property.
