Biochem/physiol Actions
AZGP1 (α-2-glycoprotein 1, zinc-binding) is a soluble, truncated secretory major histocompatibility complex-related protein involved in lipid degradation. It has structural homology with the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) heavy chain. It possesses molecular weight of 38,500 Mr. It consists of a large groove analogous to class I MHC peptide binding grooves. It has been suggested that AZGP1 may be involved in the expression of the immune response.

Zn-alpha2-glycoprotein (ZAG) is a soluble protein that is present in serum and other body fluids. ZAG stimulates lipid degradation in adipocytes and causes the extensive fat losses associated with some advanced cancers. The 2.8 angstrom crystal structure of ZAG resembles
