Biochem/physiol Actions
Ornithine decarboxylase 1 (ODC1) acts as a rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine synthesis. ODC plays an essential role in cell growth, proliferation, transformation and angiogenesis. Upregulated expression of the protein has been observed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), colorectal tumors and polyps.
