Biochem/physiol Actions

Coronin 1A (Coronin-1A) plays a vital role in F-actin stabilization in vitro. It is also involved in phagocytosis by neutrophils and macrophages and in T-cell receptor (TCR)-mediated activation of T lymphocytes. Additionally, it is also implicated in the regulation of activate actin-related protein-2/3 (Arp2/3)-dependent processes. Mutation in the gene has been observed in T cell-deficient, B cell- and natural killer (NK) cell-sufficient (T?B+NK+) severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) patients.
Coronin-1A also plays a vital role in regulation of leukocyte specific signaling. In T-lymphocytes, coronin-1A facilitates the association of cytoskeleton dynamics to TCRαβ induced cell signaling, chemokine-mediated cell migration and homeostasis. Loss of coronin-1A gene expression in murine T cells leads to reduced ability to respond to chemotactic gradient and decrease in peripheral T cells due to apoptosis.

General description

Coronin 1A (Coronin-1A) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 16p11.2. The encoded 57kDa protein, belongs to the coronin family and is mainly expressed in hematopoietic cells. Coronin family of proteins are characterized with a highly conserved N-terminal extension (NE), five canonical WD40 repeats, a C-terminal conserved extension (CE), followed by a unique region (U), and ends with a C-terminal coiled-coil (CC) domain.

Coronin-1A (CORO1A) is a regulator of actin dynamics important for T-cell homeostasis.
