General description

Glycerol 3-phosphate oxidase is a member of the cytoplasmic oxygen utilizing catabolic enzymes. It is usually a cytoplasmic protein, present in M. pneumoniae. It is produced from glycerophospholipids, that are normally found in the respiratory tract. Glycerol 3-phosphate oxidase helps to reduce dioxygen to water/hydrogen peroxide.

Other Notes

One unit will oxidize 1.0 micromole of L-glycerol 3-phosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate with the formation of H2O2 per min at pH 7.0 and 37 deg C.
