General description

β-Amyloid peptides are a major component of the senile placques characteristic of the Alzheimer brain. Aβ (25-35) represents the region that aggregates during placque formation in Alzheimer′s disease and is a functional domain implicated in both neurotrophic and neurotoxic effects. Substitutions in this sequence can contribute to an understanding of structural characteristics related to membrane insertion, aggregation and protfibril formation with subsequent neurotoxic effects.
