EUK-8 is a salen manganese complex that exhibit potent antioxidant activities. EUK-8 is a superoxide dismutase (SOD) that inhibits amyloid fibril formation, including islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), β-amyloid and lysozyme amyloid aggregation. It appears that EUK-8 disrupts the pre-formed amyloid fibrils. EUK-8 increases the viability of the SK-N-MC cells exposed to preformed IAPP fibrils.

Several chiral Schiff-base ligands with sugar moieties at C-3 (3') or C-5 (5') of salicylaldehyde were synthesized from reaction of salicylaldehyde derivatives with diamine. These ligands coordinated with Mn(III) to afford the corresponding chiral salen-Mn(III) complexes characterized by FT-IR, MS

A new Mn(Salen) complex bearing an ureido group as an auxiliary that is three-dimensionally fixed by a cyclopentane ring fused to the Salen structure was developed. This compound exhibited considerably higher catalase-like activity than the original Mn(Salen), i.e., the cyclopentane-fused

Numerous studies have aimed to alleviate oxidative stress in a wide range of organisms by increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. However, experimental approaches have yielded contradictory evidence, and kinetics models have shown that increases in SOD activity may increase, decrease
