Biochem/physiol Actions
Celgosivir is a prodrug of natural bicyclic iminosugar castanospermine that exhibits antiviral activity in vivo including HCV and dengue. Celgosivir is an inhibitor of α-glucosidases, which inhibits glycoprotein processing in cell culture. Apparently inhibition of α-glucosidases within infected cell prevents secretion of virus.

It has long been thought that iminosugar antiviral activity is a function of inhibition of endoplasmic reticulum-resident α-glucosidases, and on this basis, many iminosugars have been investigated as therapeutic agents for treatment of infection by a diverse spectrum of viruses

Practical cell-based assays can accelerate anti-Zika (ZIKV) and anti-dengue (DENV) virus drug discovery. We developed an immunodetection assay (IA), using a pan-flaviviral monoclonal antibody recognizing a conserved envelope domain. The final protocol includes a direct virus yield reduction assay (YRA)
