Biochem/physiol Actions
Antimalarial effective against chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum
Ferroquine (SSR 97193) is an antimalarial chloroquine analog effective against chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum. Ferroquine is thought to act by producing oxidative stress and by inhibiting the formation of hemozoin, produced by Malaria parasites as a disposal product of heme, which would otherwise be toxic to the Plasmodium cells.

Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) are the recommended first-line treatment for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Ferroquine is a new combination partner for fast-acting ACTs such as artesunate. We aimed to assess different doses of ferroquine in combination with artesunate against uncomplicated

Malaria has been teasing human populations from a long time. Presently, several classes of antimalarial drugs are available in market, but the issues of toxicity, lower efficacy and the resistance by malarial parasites have decreased their overall therapeutic indices. Thus
