General description
Sulfuretin is an aurones flavonoid found in the extract of Rhus verniciflua. The Extract of Rhus verniciflua is known in the traditional medicine and scientific community to have anti-cancer properties.Sulfuretin, one of the major constituents of Rhus verniciflua extract was found to have anti-cancer activities via activation of caspase-3 and inhibition of PARP. Moreover, sulfuretin downregulates cyclin D proteins by increasing the expression of miR-30C, a tumor suppressor micro RNA that is studied in regulation of cell proliferation.2 Structure-activity relationships (SAR) of Sulfuretin analogs inhibits the proliferation of leukemia cancer line panel in vitro and in vivo in zebrafish and mice models.Furthermore, Sulfuretin 100mg/Kg in vivo study was beneficial in treating lymphoedema in mice.In addition, Sulfuretin has several other activities such as:
- Sulfuretin is an anti-adipogenic agent, suppressing the adipogenic factors C/EBPα, C/EBPβ and PPARγ, which are crucial regulators at the initial step of adipogenesis.
- Sulfuretin is a potent antioxidant which protects SH-SY5Y cell line from 6-OHDA induced ROS.
- Sulfuretin has antiviral activity through the inhibition of influenza virus neuraminidase in IC50 of 36μM.
