Biochem/physiol Actions

Cyclopropavir (Filociclovir) is an orally available and potent antiviral agent that is effective against human and murine cytomegaloviruses (MCMV and HCMV) infection. It has an in vitro median effective concentration (EC50) of approximately 1.2 μM for wild-type CMV strains. Notably, for ganciclovir-resistant strains, cyclopropavir EC50 values are typically lower than those of ganciclovir, ranging from 0.04 to 37.2μM, often demonstrating a 5 to 10-fold or greater advantage. Cyclopropavir, a methylenecyclopropane nucleoside analog , upon activation by phosphorylation targets HCMV DNA polymerase and terminates viral DNA synthesis. It is also effective against human herpes simplex virus 6 (HSV-6) and human herpes simplex virus 8 (HSV-8).
