Application

Romifidine hydrochloride may be used to study its effects on sedation and pain management in animal models.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Romifidine is an α2-adrenergic receptor (α2-adrenoceptor) agonist with in vivo sedative and analgesic efficacy. Romifidine depresses excitatory postsynaptic potential in a neonatal rat hemisected spinal cord preparation ex vivo (high/low intensity e.p.s.p. EC50 = 23.4/22.0 µM), reversible by the selective α2-adrenoceptor antagonist atipamezole.
