General description
Artepillin C (ARC) is a prenylated derivative of p-coumaric acid. It is one of the primary phenolic compounds present in Brazilian green propolis (BGP) and Baccharis dracunculifolia. It is a p-CA derivative, featuring two prenyl groups linked to the meta-positions (C3 and C5) of the phenyl ring.
Application
Artepillin C may be used to investigate its interaction with human serum albumin (HSA) and to understand its physicochemical transport mechanism in vitro.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phenolic component of propolis that exhibits multiple activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities; inhibitor of CREB-CRTC2 interaction. The anti-cancer properties of ARC are due to several mechanisms, including the induction of apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and the inhibition of p21-activated kinase 1 (PAK1).
