General description
Validamycin A (VMA) is a fungicidal antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. It is anaminoglycoside compound characterized by a sugar moiety without an amino group.
Application
Validamycin A may be used for evaluating its anti-seizure effectivenessin zebrafish larval epilepsy model; and studying its potential to induce plant defense responses and controlling fungal diseases.
Biochem/physiol Actions
ValidamycinA is a potent and competitive inhibitor of Rhizoctonia solani trehalase. Validamycin A is used to protect rice plants against sheath blight caused by R.solani. Validamycin A in combination withamphotericin B appears to be effective against Aspergillus flavus strains resistant to amphotericin B. It is also efficient in controlling bacterial wilt intomatoes caused by P. solanacearum.
