General description

Cell penetrant, selective and potent activator of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT).
TAC (TERT activator compound) is a cell penetrant, selective and potent activator of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) that upregulates TERT transcription through activation of the MEK/ERK/AP-1 cascade. It induces TERT expression in WS fibroblasts (0.5 µM) and increases telomere synthesis in primary human cells. TAC alleviates neuroinflammation, increases neurotrophic factors, stimulates adult neurogenesis, and preserves cognitive function without toxicity in brain of naturally aged mice.

Insufficient telomerase activity, stemming from low telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene transcription, contributes to telomere dysfunction and aging pathologies. Besides its traditional function in telomere synthesis, TERT acts as a transcriptional co-regulator of genes pivotal in aging and age-associated diseases.
