BMOE

BMOE is a membrane-permeable, rigid, irreversible homo-bifunctional cross-linker with a short spacer arm (~8 Å) that forms a stable covalent thioether bond at pH 6.5–7.5, inducing conformational changes in proteins. Bismaleimidoethane effectively targets bis-cysteines within a 6.3–10.5 Å distance, enabling near-stoichiometric cross-linking and facilitating the study of protein-protein interactions and complex architecture in native cellular environments. BMOE is particularly useful for probing the quaternary structure of proteins, exploring oligomerization, and characterizing disulfide bond formation in intact cells.
