General description
Stromal Cell-Derived Factor-1α (SDF-1α) is a recently discovered protein belonging to the α-chemokine (C-X-C) family of cytokines. Recombinant mouse SDF-1α is a 7.9kDa protein containing 68 amino acids residues.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Stromal Cell-Derived Factor-1α (SDF-1α) is a pleiotropic chemokine. It works as a chemoattractant for T- and B-lymphocytes and inflammatory monocytes. In neural stem cells, SDF-1α is needed for proliferation, survival, migration, intercellular interaction and guidance to neuronal axon. It is responsible for pathogenic inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS). It also controls BMP (bone morphogenic protein)-associated osteogenic differentiation.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 10 mM acetic acid. The protein may appear as a haze or film, which is difficult to see at the bottom of the vial.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitution in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. The solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
