Gene Information
human ... ARTN(9048)
General description
Human Artemin, a neurotrophic factor, belongs to the GDNF family. Artemin is a survival factor for sensory and sympathetic neurons in culture. Recombinant human Artemin is a 24.2 kDa, disulfide-linked homodimer formed by two identical 113 amino acid subunits. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 1p34.1.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Artemin (ART/ARTN) is a survival factor for sensory and sympathetic neurons in culture. It has a role in promoting survival of neurons. ART is also involved in the differentiation and development of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The protein promotes axonal projection and migration in sympathetic neurons. Artemin restores neural damage and diminishes neuropathic pain. It has been associated with various carcinomas.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 10 mM Sodium Citrate pH 4.5 plus 150 mM NaCl.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-0.5 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or –20°C for future use.
Recontitute in PBS containing at least 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This stock solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4°C for 1 week or –20°C for future use.
