General description
Omentin (intelectin-1) is highly expressed in omental adipose tissue, small intestine and various other tissues. It is a plasma adipokine made up of 313 amino acids.
Application
Omentin (intelectin-1) has been used in intelectin binding and cleavage assays.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Omentin (intelectin-1) has no effect on basal glucose uptake but enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipocytes. It increases protein kinase B (AKT) phosphorylation in the absence and presence of insulin. Omentin was suggested to play a role in the defense system against microorganisms by recognizing carbohydrate chains of pathogens and bacterial components containing galactofuranosyl residues. It has anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing properties. The protein may be a biomarker of metabolic disorders. It has been shown to be over-expressed in human malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).
Physical form
Lyophilized from PBS.
Preparation Note
Reconstitute with 100 μL deionized water.
Other Notes
Human omentin (aa 17-313) is fused at the N-terminus to a FLAG®-tag.
