General description

Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF2) also known as basic FGF (bFGF) is a heparin-binding growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of a wide variety of cells including mesenchymal, neuroectodermal and endothelial cells. FGF2 also exerts a potent angiogenic activity in vivo. It synergizes with the BMP antagonist noggin to sustain undifferentiated proliferation of human embryonic stem (hES) cells under feeder-free conditions. Due to its rapid degradation of wild-type FGF2 at 37 °C, stem cell cultures require frequent media changes with FGF2 supplementation to support continual cell prolifieration. StableCell FGF-2 is an engineered version of human FGF2 exhibiting enchanced thermostability. StableCell FGF2 enables a more relaxed feeding schedule to support human ES/iPS and neural stem cell culture.

Biochem/physiol Actions

StableCell FGF-2 is a proprietary engineered protein sequence under license from Enantis. It is expressed in E. coli and is animal component free. StableCell FGF-2 is engineered with enchanced thermostability compared to the wild-type bFGF protein.

Physical form

StableCell FGF2 is supplied as a 0.2 µm filtered aqueous solution in 20 mM phosphate buffer pH 7.5, 500 mM NaCl.
