Gene Information

General description

TSH is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It consists of a common α-subunit shared with other glycoprotein hormones (FSH, LH, and hCG) and a hormone-specific β-subunit that confers receptor specificity. Native bovine TSH is structurally conserved across mammalian species and exhibits biological activity through interaction with the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR). As a glycosylated protein, its biological activity and stability are influenced by its carbohydrate moieties.

Application

Thyroid stimulating hormone has been used in:
  • Studies of thyroid function and regulation
  • Cell-based assays involving TSH receptor activation
  • Endocrine signaling and hormone response studies
  • Assays evaluating thyroid hormone biosynthesis

Biochem/physiol Actions

TSH binds to the TSH receptor (TSHR) on thyroid follicular cells, activating cAMP-dependent signaling pathways that regulate thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion (T3 and T4). It plays a central role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and regulating growth and development.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 10mM KPB (pH 8.0), 0.150M NaCl

Preparation Note

It is recommended that the powder be reconstituted in physiological saline (PH7.0)
