Biochem/physiol Actions

Calponin 1 (CNN1) plays a key role in regulation of smooth muscle contraction in various physiological situations. Measurement of CNN1 level in maternal serum is considered to be a potent method for the short-term prediction of preterm birth in women with threatened preterm labor. CNN1 also acts as a cardiac and smooth muscle differentiation marker. In addition, it is also implicated in the actomyosin stabilization and cell motility repression.
