Mucin-5AC (UniProt: P98088; also known as MUC-5AC, Gastric mucin, Major airway glycoprotein, Mucin-5 subtype AC, tracheobronchial, Tracheobronchial mucin (TBM)) is encoded by the MUC5AC (also known as MUC5) gene (Gene ID: 4586) in human. Mucin-5AC is a high molecular weight glycoprotein belonging to the mucin family, characterized by extensive glycosylation and tandem repeat domains rich in serine and threonine residues. Mucin-5AC forms polymeric gels through disulfide-mediated multimerization, contributing to its viscoelastic properties. Mucin-5AC plays a critical role in protecting epithelial surfaces by forming a physical barrier against pathogens and environmental insults, while also participating in immune modulation by interacting with cell surface receptors and microbial adhesins. It is predominantly expressed in goblet cells of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, with localization to the mucus layer covering epithelial surfaces. Mucin-5AC interacts with proteins such as P300, which regulates its expression via histone acetylation, and other mucins like MUC5B to maintain mucus homeostasis. Dysregulation of MUC5AC expression is implicated in various diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and gastric cancers, where excessive secretion contributes to mucus hyperplasia and impaired clearance. Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:10,000 dilution of this antibody detected Mucin 5AC in A549 cell lysate.


Tested Applications

Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:1,000 dilution from a representative lot detected Mucin 5AC in human stomach tissue lysate.

Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin) Analysis: A 1:1,000 dilution from a representative lot detected Mucin 5AC in human stomach tissue sections.

Affinity Binding Assay: A representative lot of this antibody bound with Mucin 5AC peptide with at least ten thousand-fold (10,000X) higher affinity than with non-specific control peptide.

ELISA Analysis: A representative lot of this antibody detected Mucin 5AC protein in ELISA application.

Clone 2K18 is a ZooMAb^® rabbit recombinant monoclonal antibody that detects Mucin 5AC. It targets an epitope within 20 amino acids from the internal region.

Purified recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody IgG, lyophilized in PBS with 5% Trehalose, normal appearance a coarse or translucent resin. The PBS/trehalose components in the ZooMAb formulation can have the appearance of a semi-solid (bead like gel) after lyophilization. This is a normal phenomenon. Please follow the recommended reconstitution procedure in the data sheet to dissolve the semi-solid, bead-like, gel-appearing material. The resulting antibody solution is completely stable and functional as proven by full functional testing. Contains no biocide or preservatives, such as azide, or any animal by-products. Recommend storage of lyophilized product at 2-8°C; Before reconstitution, micro-centrifuge vials briefly to spin down material to bottom of the vial; Reconstitute each vial by adding 25 µL of filtered lab grade water or PBS; Reconstituted antibodies can be stored at 2-8°C, or -20°C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaws.
