General description

Nitrosamines are chemical compounds that can form during drug manufacturing and may pose health risks, including carcinogenicity.

N-Nitrosomorpholin (CAS 59-89-2) is a non‑intentionally added substance (NIAS), typically formed by nitrosation of secondary amines in polymers, adhesives, inks, or elastomers. It is not deliberately used as a monomer or additive; occurrences are trace‑level and process‑dependent. Analytical testing focuses on trace identification and quantification, root‑cause analysis, and trend monitoring under worst‑case time/temperature/simulant conditions to support risk assessment and compliance. This analytical standard is utilized in chromatographic and spectrometric techniques for the detectionof nitrosamines in chemical, pharmaceutical, food and environmental matrices.

Application

N-Nitrosomorpholine may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of nitrosamines in drinking water using ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC/MS/MS).
