General description

1,3,5‑Tris(2‑hydroxyethyl)isocyanurate (THEIC) is used in plastics and coatings as a multifunctional building block, serving as a stabilizer/heat‑resistant flame‑retardant component and as a precursor/crosslinker in urethane foams and laminates. It is also employed to modify polyester and polyesterimide wire‑enamel resins, improving thermal and electrical performance in insulating coatings. THEIC is a known precursor to triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC), a crosslinker used in polyester powder coatings, so it can be encountered as an intentional ingredient or as a residual/unreacted intermediate from TGIC‑related processing.
