General description

Calcium is a highlyreactive and non-toxic metal that is widely used as a reducing agent. It isalso used for the improvement of steel, as a desulfurizer, and as an alloying agent. Calciumis prepared by the aluminothermal or electrolysis method.

Calcium can be used as:

Process control agent in mechanical alloying of titanium to get maximum powder yield and microstructural stability.
A precursor to synthesize Ca₈Al₃ and Ca₁₃Al₁₄ with metallic Zintl phases and Ca_6.2Mg_3.8Sn with an unprecedented type of tin chain composed of square-planar tin units.
A catalyst in the highly selective oxidation of phenols.
