Super C45 is a popular conductive additive essential for producing electrodes for lithium-ion batteries and sodium-ion batteries. This type of carbon black is characterized by its nearly spherical shape and an average particle size ranging from 100 to 200 nanometers. Its designation, "Super C45," reflects its specific surface area of 45 square meters per gram.
Application
As a crucial ingredient in both anode and cathode construction, Super C45 plays a pivotal role in improving electronic conductivity and minimizing electrode polarization during battery use. Super C45 disperses well in N-methyl pyrrolidone and is typically included at a proportion of 3 to 10 percent by weight in the electrode slurry mix. In comparison to alternatives such as Super P and Super C65, Super C45 distinguishes itself due to its lower graphitization and higher hydrogen and oxygen content. This unique surface chemistry not only facilitates better dispersion in the polar solvents typically used in wet-mixing processes but also results in slurries with reduced viscosity owing to the additive′s larger particle size. Furthermore, Super C45′s ability to form uniform dispersions with less stable particle aggregates makes it the conductive carbon additive of choice, particularly for dry-mixing or dry-processing electrode methods, where consistent and homogeneous mixtures are paramount.
