Application
10:0 PA may be used:
- as a component in the lipid bilayer to study how lipid geometry acts in coat protein I (COPI) vesicle fission
- to study its effects on intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) in C6 rat glioma and L2071 mouse fibroblast cells
- to activate protein kinase C (PKC)
- as a cell-free activator in membrane and cytosolic fractions for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase assay
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidic acid (PA) serves as a lipid second messenger. It can control membrane shape. It is known to participate in cell proliferation, vesicular trafficking, cytoskeletal organization and signal transduction. PA can stimulate negative curvature in lamellar lipid structures. It can block the enzymatic activity of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1).
General description
Phosphatidic acid (PA), a minor constituent of biological membranes is a simplest glycerophospholipid. It has glycerol backbone with phosphate present at C-3 position. The C-1 and C-2 positions are esterified with fatty acids.

NADPH oxidase comprises both cytosolic and membrane-bound subunits, which, when assembled and activated, initiate the transfer of electrons from NADPH to molecular oxygen to form superoxide. This activity, known as the respiratory burst, is extremely important in the innate immune

Among the cellular lipids, phosphatidic acid (PA) is a peculiar one as it is at the same time a key building block of phospholipid synthesis and a major lipid second messenger conveying signaling information. The latter is thought to largely

Phosphatidic acid (PA) is the simplest glycerophospholipid naturally occurring in living organisms, and even though its content among other cellular lipids is minor, it is drawing more and more attention due to its multiple biological functions. PA is a precursor

Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is characterized by defects in the superoxide producing enzyme NADPH oxidase causing phagocytes to improperly clear invading pathogens. Here we report findings of a late presenting 16-year-old female with X-linked CGD. The patient presented with community-acquired

Phosphatidic acid (PA) increased intracellular Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](i)) in C6 rat glioma and L2071 mouse fibroblast cells. Dioleoyl PA (PA, 18:1) was the most efficacious, followed by dipalmitoyl PA (16:0 PA) and dimyristoyl PA (14:0 PA). Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) also
