Application
Brain PC is suitable for use:
- in the preparation of small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs)
- as a constituent in serial protein misfolding cyclic amplification (sPMCA) buffer
- as standard for ion mobility shift-mass spectrometry (IMS-MS)
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the major source of choline through food supplements. PC helps in improving learning and memory. PC functions in membrane fusion and transport and endocytosis. It is implicated in lowering of blood lipid and cholesterol levels, preventing cardiovascular disease and inhibiting obesity.
General description
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is an important structural component of cell membrane and plasma lipoprotein. It is synthesized by CDP choline pathway. Liver is the main site for the synthesis of PC. Brain PC predominantly contains PC 16:0/16:0 and PC 16:0/18:1.
