Application
Monomethyl sphingosine or N-methyl-D-erythro-sphingosine may be used as one of the substrates for sphingosine methyltransferase to test its substrate specificity in rat kidney homogenate.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Monomethyl sphingosine inhibits protein kinase C. It also modulates other protein kinases and enzymes involved in signal transduction.
