Gemin-2 (also known as SIP1 or SMN interacting protein1) is a part of the SMN complex. The SMN complex plays a role in RNA metabolism and in splicing regulation. As part of the SMN complex Gemin-2 interacts directly with Gemin-5 in a heteromeric complex that includes Gemin-3, Gemin-4, Gemin-6. This macromolecular complex (SMN complex) mediates assembly of spliceosomal snRNA complexes containing U1 and U5.
