Ganglioside GD_1a, Disialo, Diammonium Salt, Bovine Brain

Disialoganglioside prepared from bovine gray matter. Useful as a differentiation marker of tumor cell growth. Protein kinase C inhibitor. Readily converted to GM₁ by bacterial and mammalian sialidases without detergent or bile salts. One mole yields 2 moles of sialic acid by thiobarbituric acid assay. The molecular weight is based on stearoyl-18:0.

Following reconstitution, store in the refrigerator (4°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 6 months at 4°C.

For use in aqueous systems, dissolve in a small amount of DMSO and then sonicate in buffer or medium, or dissolve the dried sample directly in aqueous buffers by sonication. Solutions may be filter sterilized.
