Gene Information
human ... TRAPPC1(58485)
General description
TRAPPC1 is one part of a larger protein complex called the TRAPP (transport protein particle) complex vital to Golgi function and transport. TRAPPC1 is localized to the Golgi and endoplasmic reticulum. Vesicle-mediated transport is a process carried out by virtually all cells and is required for the proper targeting and secretion of proteins. As such, there are numerous proteins involved to ensure that the proteins are properly transported, targeted, tethered, and localized. The TRAPP complex is just one such complex but it is one of the most studied. Mutations in TRAPPC proteins can lead to serious disorders including muscular dystrophy and myopathy such as that seen with mutations associated with TRAPPC11 (a related gene to TRAPPC1).
~19 kDa observed. The endogenous band appears at ~31kDa (mouse brain) while the transfected band appears at ~19kDa
