General description

1-Chlorobutane, commonly known as butyl chloride, is a colorless liquid and a non-polar alkyl halide. It is classified as a biogenic very high boiling point volatile organic compound (VHOC) with a high vapor pressure. 1-Chlorobutane is one of the most widely used alkylating agents in the synthesis of ionic liquids that incorporate a butyl side chain in the cation.
