General description
Dichloromethane, also known as methylene chloride, is a polar organochlorine compound. It is a colorless, volatile, and high-density liquid that is miscible with many organic solvents. As a result, it is widely used as a solvent in products such as polymers, adhesives and paints.

Dichloromethane is used as
- A solvent to prepare mobile phase in Liquid chromatography.
- Extraction solvent in the decaffeination of coffee and as a paint stripper.
- Solvent lipid extraction to determine the lipid classes and fatty acids in samples.
